Here most boys are circumcised around age five and there is a big party to celebrate. In fact they use the same word, "Tui", for this party as they do for a wedding so it is a big deal. We had the chance to attend our first "Tuii Hatna" Friday night. Fortunately for the two young boys involved, the reason for the party had taken place some time ago but everyone was still excited and eager to celebrate this event in their lives.
The festivities were much like a wedding but even more party-like. The two little boys had their fancy costumes and most of the ladies were wearing fancy party dresses. I felt kind of underdressed in my nice korta! We had lots of good food, there was loud music, dancing, a clown and even streamers and shaving cream flying through the air. Drew and I really enjoyed ourselves, though I don't think we'll ever get used to the loud music.
Eliana however, did NOT have a good time! This is certainly not her first Tajik party but for some reason last night the music and hooplah was just too much for her. She spent most of the night snuggled in my arms (not a problem for this mama!) and then screamed ridiculously loudly when they busted out the shaving cream. I've never seen her get that scared before. It was crazy! She was ready to go home after that so we left a little bit early. I guess you just never know with kids!
So, we had a fun time and are thankful for the chance to be a part of another cultural event here and celebrate this milestone with our good friends. Fun times!

Everyone getting ready to party
The "Men of the Hour" at the head table
You gotta love when your food is looking at you!
The girl in the middle is our friend, A, and the mother of one of the two boys who we were celebrating. The lady in blue is her mother-in-law and one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet.
The man next to our friend, A, is her husband, N. We just love these two and are so thankful for them!
Eliana enjoyed her tiny goblet!
Chug it! Chug it!
Our team leaders now how to break it down!
I love how people really celebrate here. They love dancing! It's so great!
This is how Eliana spent the evening!
Drew was a good sport and broke it down a little as well!
N in his fancy outfit! You could tell he had such a good time at the party. It was really cool! They ran around, danced and just had a good time.
Eliana wore her fancy dress too!
