Another Adventure

On Thursday of this week my babysitter took Eliana to the zoo so I decided that on Friday I would finally take the plunge and go with her myself.  I'd been wanting to go for some time but just had not done it yet so I decided this was as good a chance as any.

The main thing I'd heard about the zoo is that is it depressing.  Well, everyone was right! This was the most depressing thing I've done in this country.  It is old, run-down, the animals are either in tiny cages or old, concrete-covered outdoor areas and half the place isn't even being used.  It is all just really sad.  The locals were antagonizing the animals and feeding them junk and it was just sad, especially when you've seen zoos like the NC Zoo in the US.  Fortunately Eliana doesn't know the difference and we paid less than $.50 to get in (perhaps part of the reason it is so run-down!).  I am glad I went though because now I know and can say I've been.  The best part was looking beyond the zoo and seeing the beautiful snow-covered mountains in the distance.  I'm so thankful God makes more beautiful things than we do!

Oh yeah, they do have a bear that does tricks!  A Tajik lady stands outside the cage and gives him commands while bribing him with a hotdog.  He dances and does somersaults and then she walks over to the cage, puts her hand out near him and the bear reaches out, grabs the food with his claws and eats it.  Crazy!  O Central Asia you never cease to amaze me!

Here is the only good not-depressing picture of the morning, though I did take a bunch of others so you can have a look if you'd like...
