So some of my friends and I eat lunch every Tuesday with the Tajik ladies who work at our office. Recently the ladies decided they wanted to do a cooking club-type thing where we meet once a month and cook something new and interesting. We had our first meeting this weekend and we Americans shared a few food items that we make for Thanksgiving. Vanessa made her family's mac and cheese, Heather made a sweet potato casserole, using pumpkin instead of the potatoes since we don't have them here, and I made a pumpkin pie.
We had a great time hanging out and sharing life with the ladies. It was a stretch language-wise to teach them the recipes but hanging out and sharing with them was great. We even passed the time waiting for the food to cook doing Zumba on the Wii, which was awesome! I don't often feel like I really "fit" here when I am with locals as I'm still learning how to do life and engage but this was one of those few times when I did and I was so thankful. I look forward to more times like this in the future!
