Unexpected Guests

Those of you who get our e-mail updates know that we went to the house of some friends a couple of weeks ago.  While we were there we mentioned that sometime we'd like to have them to our house and that we'd make pizza for them.  Well, yesterday the mom talked to us about going to their house again and we said we'd talk and get back to them.  I called one of the daughters this morning and said we'd come tomorrow.  She said something about them coming here but I said no, that we'd come tomorrow around 11:00.  I thought we had a plan.

Well, around 2:30 today our doorbell rang and it was them!  They had all come to our house today, ready to be our guests.  I was so shocked and taken aback that I responded with questions and they were surprised and ran off, one of them crying.  Yikes!  So, Drew ran after them and convinced them everything was okay and they came back.  We ended up having a great time and even managed to come up with pizza and Skyped with my grandparents, which our friends thought was really cool.  We sent them away with a Magdelena film and even drove them home.  The girl who was most upset in the beginning gave me kisses on the cheek when we left so I think everything is fine.  What an afternoon!

I really do enjoy having people to our house and very few people actually come to our house so I want them to be here.  I also know that in this culture people drop by unexpectedly.  I just sometimes have a hard time when my plans get messed up.  I think I would have even done better if it had been completely unexpected instead of thinking something else was happening.  Does that make sense?  I know this is a personal thing and I just need to deal with it but today I didn't do so well.  Drew reminded me of a verse of a little song we learned when we were doing our overseas training in college- "It's not what you do first, it's what you do next."  I'm thankful God was gracious to give me a second chance and that the second thing ended up much better than the first.  We look forward to the next time with our friends and I look forward to the next opportunity to be spontaneously hospitable!

Oh yeah, one funny thing that was said was after hearing Drew and me talking to each other in English one of the girls very surprisingly asked me if we always talk in English and if English is our best language.  I guess she just never thought about the fact that we'd speak something else to each other.  It was pretty funny!

Here are some pictures of the girls...
