Don't Waste Your Life

While we were at our training we were introduced to a Christian artist whose name is LaCrae.  His music is not the music we normally listen to but the song we heard was really powerful.  The song is called "Don't Waste Your Life" and is about living your life in a way that honors the Lord and what He has done for us.  This link is to the video and it's a great video.  I highly recommend it.

I then read a book by John Piper called "Don't Waste Your Life" once we got here.  It too focuses on our pursuits in life and whether or not they're worthy of the life we have in Christ.  He gave His life for us and said that we must give up everything in order to follow Him, denying ourselves, taking up His cross daily and following Him.  In addition, Paul goes on to say that to live is Christ and to die is gain.  Living for our jobs, making money, our children, even our churches, is wasting our lives.  We should be living for Christ and seeking what that means for each of us.

Anyway, I was listening to the LaCrae song again tonight and noticed some more of the lyrics (it takes me awhile to get all of them) and they really struck me and reminded of the book and confirmed why I like this guy so much:

People living life for a job
Make a lil money start living for a car
Get em a house a wife kids and a dog
When they retire they living high on the hog
But guess what they didn't ever really live at all
To live is Christ yeah that's Paul I recall
To die is gain so for Christ we give it all
He's the treasure you'll find in the mall
Your money your singleness marriage talent and time
They were loaned to you to show the world that Christ is Divine
That's why it's Christ in my rhymes
That's why it's Christ all the time

Pretty convicting.  What are you living for?  Is living for you Christ and is dying gain?  Here are the rest of the lyrics.  We also have his album Rehab and all the songs are great. You can download the PIper book for free.  And as always, search the scriptures, they'll remind you of what true life really is.  I don't want any of us to get to the end of our lives and realize we've wasted them on the things of this world that will all burn and fade away.  Make we make the most of what God has given and commanded of us each day.
